First of all, make sure your sheep you intend to register meet the breed standard. Visit the NABSSAR Breed Standards Page for more information. We have a print version and a photo version. Any sheep not meeting the NABSSAR Breed Standard are NOT eligible for registration.
Only lambs from NABSSAR registered parents (sire AND dam) are eligible for registration using the Application for Sheep Registration/Transfer in the North American Babydoll Southdown Sheep Association and Registry form. This includes lambs conceived via artificial insemination &/or embryo transfer (AI &/or ET).
You must be a member of NABSSAR to register and transfer sheep. Before submitting any applications for registering or transferring sheep, please become a member and obtain your membership number. You will receive a welcome letter with your membership number and other information from ASR within two weeks of their receipt of your application, usually sooner.
Current NABSSAR members may download the Application for Sheep Registration/Transfer in the North American Babydoll Southdown Sheep Association and Registry form and send it directly to the NABSSAR registry with the proper fees or upload it using the Electronic Submission Process (ESP). The form is a fillable PDF or you may print it first and fill it out by hand.
The form above is the form you would use when registering lambs. The form can also be used if you are transferring them to their first buyer at the same time you are applying for their Certificate of Registration (CoR). Mail
the completed Application for Sheep Registration/Transfer in
the North American
Babydoll Southdown Sheep Association and Registry packet to:
NABSSAR
420A Lincoln
PO Box 231
Wamego, KS 66547
Alternatively, the ORIGINAL Certificate of Registry must be mailed to the address above. The forms and the images may be uploaded using the ESP (Electronic Submission Process).
Completing
the WORK ORDER AND
FEE SCHEDULE FORM:
The Breeder should fill out the top section and under section B use
option #1 for lambs under one year old, indicating the quantity being
registered; or, option #2 for sheep over one year of age, indicating
the quantity being registered.
The Breeder would also fill out section C and how many transfers they are doing.
Fill out total transactions at bottom and mail this form with the application for registration form to the NABSSAR Registry. The Breeder should have papers mailed back to them to double check everything is correct including that the Registrar has signed the back of the papers. The Breeder then mails the completed, accurate CoR to the Buyer and the sale is complete.
OTHER WAYS TO COMPLETE
THE TRANSFER PROCESS NOT USING the Seller Transferring to (Name,
Address, Phone #) section of the form.
A Breeder may choose to leave this line blank on the Application and
just register the sheep into their
name. The CoR would be issued to the Breeder who should check
it for accuracy then wait until the final sale to do the
transfer. This would then be done by:
- The Breeder: After a sale, the Breeder has the Buyer fill out the back of the CoR with their Name, Address, City, State and Phone Number. The breeder signs the transfer on the Seller line. The Breeder would then send in this paper (the original CoR) to the NABSSAR Registry. The breeder should have the CoR mailed back to them to check it for accuracy and make sure it has been signed off by the registrar. The Breeder then would mail the completed CoR to the Buyer.
- The Buyer: The Breeder explains to the Buyer that they need to fill out the back of the CoR with their Name, Address, City, State, and Phone Number. The Breeder signs the transfer on the Seller line. The Breeder explains to the Buyer that they will need to become a member of the NABSSAR and Breeder should give the Buyer a New Membership Application if the Buyer is not already a member of the NABSSAR.
The Breeder should also give the Buyer the Work Order and Fee Schedule Form along with instructions to fill out Section C (transfer) and that both forms should be mailed to the NABSSAR Registry and to call you if they have any questions about their completed papers.
NOTE: The NABSSAR recommends that all Breeders take care of transfers for Buyers to insure their sheep transfers are completed, otherwise, if a Buyer fails to transfer the sheep, the sheep would still be owned by the Breeder on the CoR. It is up to the Breeder to pay the fee for the transfer of the sheep to the new owners or collect the fee from the Buyers but the transfer fee must be paid BEFORE the work will be completed. Since originals need to be sent in and payment must be received before the Registrar completes any paperwork, it is recommended that the Buyers are either given copies of sire and dam papers with lamb ear tag numbers, or copies of lamb papers while they wait for their transfer to be complete. Buyers should get something at pick up in addition to a Bill of Sale/Trade form.
If the ASR completes the transfer and the sale falls through for any reason, there will be a $5.00 fee (use the H. OTHER line on the Work order and Fee Schedule Form) to make the necessary corrections in the NABSSAR's records and on the sheep's CoR. The incorrect CoR must be returned to the ASR (see NABSSAR's address below).
Certificate of Registry papers will now show your sheep's lineage's fleece colors and if the sheep was a single, twin, or triplet birth, as well as the genotype (if known). If you would like your sheep's CoR to show this information if the one you have does not, fill out the Work Order and Fee Schedule form and request a "duplicate certificate" & send the form in with your original CoR (make a copy before sending it) to ASR. A note explaining why you are making the request would be helpful.

Did You Know?
Did you have a registered sheep
leave your flock without its Certificate of Registry (CoR) as a
non-papered sheep? If you are the last official owner of the sheep
(your name is the last one on a sheep's CoR and your ownership has been
approved by the registrar) and this was the case, you have the option
of having the sheep's record noted as such.
To do so, contact the Associated Sheep Registry (ASR) in writing, by
doing the following, and they will add a note to the sheep's records.
1) Send the original CoR with
the transfer section noted “No longer in flock, left as
non-papered.” and the date this happened.
2) Once this process is completed, it cannot be undone.
3) No further transfers will be completed for the sheep. No further
offspring of the sheep will be registered.
